Former Vancouver Canuck Pius Suter has signed a two-year deal, $8 million deal with the St. Louis Blues, carrying an $4M average annual value (AAV).

The Swiss forward signed a two-year, $3.2 million deal with the Canucks late in the 2023-2024 NHL offseason. In his first season with Vancouver, Suter started centring a line with Dakota Joshua and Conor Garland, where the trio started developing chemistry. Then an injury derailed his position on that line, as Teddy Blueger filled in his spot and became one of the league’s deadliest third-line.

However, Suter showed his versatility when he became a defensively responsible fit on the left side of a line with JT Miller and Brock Boeser. He went on to finish his first year in Vancouver with 14 goals and 15 assists for 29 points in 67 regular season games, adding two goals and one assist in 13 postseason games.

In his contract year, Suter had a breakout offensive season. He continued to be a defensively sound, Swiss Army knife for the organization, stepping up when they needed him the most. Amid their push for the postseason, Elias Pettersson and Filip Chytil went down with injuries. This catapulted Suter into the top-line centre role, where he scored two goals and six assists over a four-game span.

Unfortunately for Suter and the Canucks, it wasn’t enough as the team missed the playoffs. However, having set career highs in goals (25) and points (46), Suter earned a healthy raise, which ultimately priced him out of Vancouver.

Suter joins Noah Juulsen as an ex-Canuck to find a new home on July 1. Juulsen signed a one-year, one-way contract worth $900,000, reuniting with his former head coach, Rick Tocchet, with the Philadelphia Flyers.

In shocking fashion, the Canucks managed to retain Boeser at a seven-year, $50.75 million deal to stay in Vancouver, holding a $7.25 million AAV.
