Potential Trade Options for the Ottawa Senators
Brad Penner-Imagn Images

The Ottawa Senators this season have started 15-13-4 with 34 points. At the time of writing, they are seventh in the Atlantic Division, two points above last place and seven points away from first place. They are five points out of the final Wild Card spot. That all being said, they are still in the playoff race, and with trade season starting early, they are looking for potential upgrades. One thing they will look to upgrade is top-six scoring. They currently have David Perron on the second line; moving him down to the bottom six would give the Senators scoring depth. So, who are some names they might be interested in? The names being floated around are Flames forward Blake Coleman, Canucks forwards Keifer Sherwood and Conor Garland, and Predators forward Michael Bunting.

Blake Coleman

Coleman is under contract for this season and next, bringing in a $4.90 million AAV cap hit. He does have a no-movement clause, so he’d have to approve a deal to the Senators. Coleman would bring in Stanley Cup expereince having won two with the Lightning. In 658 career games, he has 305 points on 160 goals and 145 assists. He’s a +47 with 12 power-play goals, 21 shorthanded goals, and 27 game-winning goals.

Keifer Sherwood

Sherwood is a free agent after this season. He would carry a $1.50 million AAV cap hit. Sherwood is a name that will seem to carry a bidding war, and Vancouver will take the best offer they can get. Can Ottawa provide that? In 298 career games, he has 115 points on 56 goals and 59 assists. He’s a +19 with five power-play goals, two shorthanded goals, and 11 game-winning goals.

Conor Garland

Garland is under contract for three seasons. He has a no-movement clause that kicks in next season. He carries a $4.95 million AAV cap hit this season before it goes up next season to $6 million. The 29-year-old hasplayed in 512 games over eight seasons, recording 310 points on 129 goals and 181 assists. He’s a +14 with 23 power-play goals, a shorthanded goal, and 21 game-winning goals.
