The Nashville Predators travel to T-Mobile Arena to take on the fifth best team in the Western Conference, the Vegas Golden Knights. Vegas has gone 7-3-1 since last playing the Predators on January 15, a game in which Mark Stone scored his first career regular season hat trick in a 4-1 Vegas win.
The Golden Knights have had their share of adversity this season losing several important players to injuries. Shea Theodore and Jack Eichel have each been out of the lineup for significant time. Defenseman Theodore could potentially make his return tonight after having surgery for an upper body injury that occurred in late November. He skated in warmups yesterday afternoon against the San Jose Sharks but didn't play in the game.
Vegas will be playing the second game of a back to back after defeating the Sharks yesterday afternoon 4-0 on the road. Despite it being a quick turnaround, the Golden Knights have been solid this season in back to backs, going 5-3-1 in their second games. Logan Thompson earned the shutout against San Jose yesterday so it's likely the Predators will face Adin Hill in net tonight. Hill is 14-4-0-2 this season with an impressive .931 save percentage. He currently ranks first in the league in save percentage in his 21 games. His goals against average is top in the NHL at 2.06, and Hill has had two shutouts this season as well.
The Predators are coming off of a strong bounce back road win over the St Louis Blues after last week's disastrous 9-2 loss to the Dallas Stars at home. Nashville has a 14-10-2 road record this season but has struggled to get to .500 at home.
The Predators are 2-2 since returning from the All-Star break, and head coach Andrew Brunette hasn't been pleased with the mindset and focus of the team since the break. After the Dallas loss, Brunette had very frank conversations — and very challenging practices — to get the team back to the level of play he expects. The team was supposed to see a U2 concert in Vegas, but the outing was cancelled over poor effort and practice schedule issues.
The Predators practice lines were the same yesterday as the lineup for the Blues game.
Forsberg - ROR - Nyquist
Trenin - Sissons - Glass
Novak - Jankowski - Evangelista
Smith - McCarron - Sherwood
Josi - Fabbro
McDonagh - Schenn
Lauzon - Carrier
Tyson Barrie, Egor Afanasyev, and Denis Gurianov were extras.
The Predators take on the Golden Knights tonight at T-Mobile Arena. Puck drop is scheduled for 9:00 pm CT. The game will be broadcast on Bally Sports South and 102.5 The Game will have the radio call.
