Predators’ Gustav Nyquist held out of Saturday’s game vs. Islanders for potential trade

Soon after, TSN hockey insider Pierre LeBrun shared that the Predators and the Minnesota Wild were talking about a potential trade involving Nyquist, but the deal is not complete and there “could be a complication.”

The 35-year-old Nyquist is in his second season with the Predators, scoring nine goals and 12 assists for 21 points in 57 games this year. Now in his 13th NHL season, Nyquist has scored 200 goals and 317 assists for 524 points in 841 career regular-season games with the Predators, Wild, Columbus Blue Jackets, San Jose Sharks and Detroit Red Wings.

Nyquist, a native of Halmstad, Sweden, has also played in 77 career Stanley Cup Playoff games, scoring six goals and 24 assists for 30 points. He was part of the 2018-19 Sharks squad that went to the Western Conference Finals against the St. Louis Blues.

Before becoming a full-time NHLer, Nyquist helped the Red Wings’ AHL affiliate, the Grand Rapid Griffins, win the AHL’s Calder Cup. That season, he scored 23 goals and 37 assists for 60 points in 58 games, then went on to have two goals and five assists for seven points in 10 Calder Cup playoff games.
