The Nashville Predators and new president of hockey operations Chris MacFarland continue to add new forwards to the mix with great vigor.

Just hours after the NHL’s free agency window opened at noon Eastern on Wednesday, the Predators signed center Alex Kerfoot to a two-year contract that, according to TSN’s Darren Dreger, comes with a salary cap hit of $3.5 million.

Kerfoot is fresh off a two-year stint with the Utah Mammoth. The British Columbia native was limited by injuries this past season, putting up 13 points in the 34 regular season contests in which he suited up.

The best year of Kerfoot’s career came with the Toronto Maple Leafs in 2021-22, when he topped the 50-point mark for the first and only time thanks to a 13-goal, 38-assist season.

The Predators have been one of the busiest teams in the NHL as MacFarland looks to put his fingerprints on his new team’s roster.

Earlier Wednesday, he swung a trade with the Dallas Stars to land offer-sheet candidate Mavrik Bourque. MacFarland has also dealt twice with his former team, the Colorado Avalanche, to add centers Ross Colton and Jack Drury, who subsequently signed a long-term extension to stay in Nashville.

On the wing, the Predators have made trades to land six-foot-seven Adam Edstrom from the New York Rangers and the talented, diminutive Nils Hoglander from the Vancouver Canucks.

Nashville narrowly missed out on the Stanley Cup Playoffs last season thanks to a strong recovery from a disastrous start, but for a roster with aging veterans on expensive contracts at the top of the roster, a push for the playoffs could be the idea as MacFarland continues to load up on supporting talent.
