
The Providence Bruins started their weekend series with the Cleveland Monsters tonight. The Bruins won 2-1 to improve to 9-1-0-0 on the young season. The Monsters with the loss dropped to 3-2-2-1.
The opening period was all Providence as they got the scoring started with just over three minutes left in the period as Dans Locmelis scored his third of the season. The Bruins added to their lead with 24 seconds left as John Farinacci scored his second of the season. Providence was outshot 17-6 in the first period by Cleveland.
The Monsters made it a one-goal game with under 4.5 minutes left in the period as Roman Ahcan scored his first of the season. Cleveland once again outshot the Bruins 13-9.
Neither team found the back of the net leading to the Bruins securing the win. Cleveland continued their outshooting of Providence as they had 14 shots on goal while the Bruins countered with ten.
Michael DiPietro stopped 42 of the 43 shots he faced to secure the first star of the game. Ivan Fedotov stopped 23 of the 25 shots he faced in the loss. Locmelis was the second star of the game while Ahcan was the third star for Cleveland
These two teams are back at it tomorrow at 1:00 p.m. EST.
