During the New York Rangers end of season media availabilities, Rangers captain Jacob Trouba opened up about the ankle injury he was dealing with earlier this season.

New York Post’s Mollie Walker, was the first to report that Trouba confirmed that the ankle injury he was dealing with was a broken ankle and that “a big chunk of his ankle came off.”

Trouba was named the 2023-24 recipient of the Mark Messier NHL Leadership Award a few weeks ago. Trouba scored three goals and 19 assists for 22 points in 69 games during the 2023-24 regular season. He helped lead the Rangers to a club-record 55 wins and 114 points, making it to the Eastern Conference Finals before being eliminated by the Florida Panthers. He allied one goal and seven points in 16 Stanley Cup Playoff contests.

The 30-year-old’s playoff run did not come without some drama being mixed into it. During the second-round series against the Carolina Hurricanes, Trouba did his best WWE impression and went for a flying elbow to the head of Marty Necas. Then during the Eastern Conference Finals, Trouba was fined $5,000 for elbowing Panthers forward Evan Rodrigues.

In 11 NHL seasons, Trouba has scored 73 goals and 236 assists for 309 points in 748 games played with the Rangers and Winnipeg Jets.

Trouba was originally selected by Winnipeg in the first round of the 2011 NHL Draft. He was dealt to the Rangers in 2019 for Neal Pionk and a first-round draft pick.
