The New York Rangers fired Peter Laviolette after a disastrous season, and they may have found his replacement in two-time Stanley Cup winner Mike Sullivan.
After reaching the Eastern Conference Finals twice in three seasons, the New York Rangers had high hopes for 2024-25, but it turned out to be a devastatingly disappointing campaign for the team, and they quickly made changes.
Early in the offseason, the team parted ways with Peter Laviolette, who many believed would be the coach to help the franchise take the next step, and it appears they don't want to waste time replacing him.
The New York Rangers are in advanced contract talks to name Mike Sullivan head coach, sources told @KevinWeekes & me. It is expected to be one of the richest coaching contracts in NHL history.

After a hot start under Laviolette, things unraveled quickly for the Rangers. It seems they want a veteran presence in the locker room to bring talent and personalities together to chase a Stanley Cup.
While his last three years in Pittsburgh weren't perfect, Sullivan is one of the best coaches in the NHL, and given the talent in New York, he may just be the man to bring the best out in those players.
