Rangers' Mika Zibanejad Responds to 'Dangerous' Question

The New York Rangers’ offensive woes hit another low Monday night, and so did forward Mika Zibanejad’s patience.

Following a 3–1 loss to the Minnesota Wild at Madison Square Garden, the Rangers fell to 0–4–0 at home, scoring just one goal in four games.

The tension boiled over postgame when Zibanejad was asked if it was “dangerous” to keep emphasizing chances instead of results.

“I have to score, yes, I understand that,” Zibanejad said. “But I’m getting to the chance. I’d be more worried if we didn’t get any chances, if I don’t get that chance, if we don’t get those chances. How many looks did we have, not just this game, overall?

“I honestly don’t know what else to do. Yeah, I don’t know.”

Pressed again about the team’s lack of puck luck, the Swedish center didn’t hide his frustration.

“We just have to keep going,” Zibanejad said. “Do you have a better idea than what we’re doing right now? Honestly, it’s frustrating. I know you guys have to ask the questions. We have to bear down. I have to score on that one.”

The Rangers’ lone goal came from Artemi Panarin just 57 seconds into the first period, ending a near-record home scoring drought that had stretched over 180 minutes.

Despite generating the NHL’s third-most high-danger chances in all situations, New York continues to rank near the bottom in actual goals scored, tied for the third-fewest goals league-wide with 16 in eight games.

Zibanejad, who has two goals and four points through eight games, said the missed opportunities are taking a toll.

“It’s frustrating for us. It’s frustrating for me,” Zibanejad said. “I’d be more worried if we didn’t get any chances, but we are. It’s just not going in.”

The Rangers host the San Jose Sharks on Thursday — a final chance to find offense before heading out on a four-game road trip.
