New York Rangers veteran goalie Jonathan Quick hit a major milestone on Sunday by simply showing up between the pipes against the Nashville Predators at Madison Square Garden in the Big Apple.
In that contest, the 39-year-old Quick became just the 17th netminder in the history of the NHL to appear in at least 800 contests. He also became only the second U.S.-born goalie to achieve that feat, with John Vanbiesbrouck being the first one to do it, according to the league's communications department.
The Rangers gave Quick a nod on social media over his historic accomplishment.
"8️⃣0️⃣0️⃣ in the books. Congrats, Quickie!" the Rangers posted on X.

Quick, however, did more than just start in front of the net for the Rangers, as he was sensational versus the Predators. The two-time Vezina Trophy nominee turned away all of Nashville's 34 shots on goal to lead New York to a 4-0 victory. Quick was especially incredible in the third period, where the Preds outshot New York, 19-6.
“When there are breakdowns, you need your goaltender to make saves and both guys are doing that, Quickie was fantastic tonight,” Rangers head coach Peter Laviolette shared following the game (h/t Mollie Walker of the New York Post).
“Especially in the third, when that game was 3-0, he had to make some big saves. There’s definitely that we could’ve and should’ve done better in front of him. A little sleepy coming out for the third period, but overall, pretty good game,” Laviolette added.
Quick, who is also the all-time wins leader among American goaltenders in the NHL, now has a 9-3 record, three shutouts, a 2.92 goals against average and a .903 save percentage through 20 appearances in the 2024-25 regular season.
