The New York Rangers have recalled one of their best forward prospects for his NHL debut. According to a team announcement, the Rangers recalled center Cole Beaudoin from the AHL’s Hartford Wolf Pack. Additionally, New York reassigned defenseman Matthew Robertson, confirming that he cleared waivers.

Beaudoin, 20, was the main prospect acquired by the Rangers in July from the Utah Mammoth in exchange for Vincent Trocheck. Utah selected him with the 24th overall pick of the 2024 NHL Draft from the OHL’s Barrie Colts. Last season, in his final campaign with the Colts, Beaudoin scored 33 goals and 88 points in 54 games with a +40 rating. Additionally, he registered 10 goals and 29 points in 15 postseason contests, leading Barrie to the OHL Final.

Because of his impressive performance throughout the 2025-26 season, Beaudoin had a legitimate chance to make New York’s opening-night roster. Despite registering one goal in two preseason contests, he was reassigned to AHL Hartford before the regular season.

His first few professional appearances couldn’t have gone much better. Beaudoin has gotten off to a red-hot start with the Wolf Pack, scoring one goal and five points in two games with a +4 rating. Assuming he plays in tonight’s in-state rivalry between the Rangers and New York Islanders, he should center the Rangers’ fourth line between Oliver Bjorkstrand and Matt Rempe.

Meanwhile, Robertson makes it through the waiver wire unscathed. Although he made New York’s opening-night roster, he has yet to play in a game this season. He spent the entire 2025-26 campaign with the Rangers, scoring six goals and 18 points in 72 games with a -1 rating, averaging 17:24 of ice time per game. It’ll be interesting to see how he fits in Hartford’s lineup, given they already have several left-handed defensemen.

Lastly, according to Mollie Walker of the New York Post, New York has placed center Joe Veleno on the injured reserve because of his lower-body injury. Veleno’s $1.2 million salary will still count against the cap, so Beaudoin’s recall required waivers for Robertson. He’ll miss the Rangers’ next three games, at the very least, though the team hasn’t given a firm timeline for his recovery.
