The New York Rangers Development Camp continues on into day 7. Today’s activities are identical to yesterday with a full practice starting at 12:15 PM all under the watchful eye of Gerard Gallant.

Based on the early goings of camp, Will Cuylle and Morgan Barron have stood out among the forwards. On defense, Nils Lundkvist has a lot of focus on him and is performing well. Braden Schneider has also played his game, and seems to have a future with the big club.

Matthew Robertson focuses on consistency

Matthew Robertson is a 20 year-old Canadian left handed defenseman the Rangers drafted in the second round of 2019. At 6-4 and 201 lbs he already has the size to play in the NHL.

Yesterday, after practice he spoke of what his focus will be for his second development camp.

“I’m coming in and trying to do my best each day,” he said. “There’s a bunch of great defensemen – forwards -great players – in this camp, and the compete level showcases that and just going out there and getting better.”

Robertson fashions himself a two-way defenseman with a focus on the defensive side. He prides himself on moving the puck and making that all important outlet pass. Last season in the WHL he won Central Division’s Defenseman of the Year with a +26, best in the league.

“I’m just being consistent everyday, just showing I’m ready to play,” Robertson said of his objective this time around. “Getting better each day. Play my game and not try and do anything out of my toolbox.”
