Rangers sign Vincent Iorio to one-year extension

According to Puckpedia, it is a two-way deal that will carry a cap hit of $850,000 at the NHL level. Iorio had been a restricted free agent prior this agreement.

New York claimed Iorio off waivers from the San Jose Sharks in late January of last season. The Coquitlam, British Columbia native went pointless in six games for the Rangers after getting claimed. In 21 games with San Jose last season, he had no goals and three assists, while also putting up seven assists in six games with the Sharks’ American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate San Jose Barracuda.

Initially selected in the second round (55th overall) from the Brandon Wheat Kings of the Western Hockey League (WHL) by the Washington Capitals in the 2021 NHL Entry Draft, Iorio made his professional debut in the 2022-23 season, when he notched two goals and 20 assists for 22 points in 63 games for Washington’s AHL affiliate Hershey Bears. He then contributed a goal and four assists for five points in 15 playoff games en route to Hershey winning the Calder Cup as AHL champions. He also had an assist in three games for the Capitals that season.

The 2023-24 season saw him register four goals and 10 assists for 14 points in 60 games for Hershey, while winning another Calder Cup following eight pointless playoff games. He got in just six games for Washington that season, going pointless.

He spent the entirety of the 2024-25 season with Hershey, scoring five goals and adding 15 assists for 20 points in 67 games. In October of the 2025-26 season, he was waived by the Capitals and claimed by the Sharks.

At 6’4″ and 220 pounds, Iorio is a 23-year-old right-shot defenseman known for having good mobility for his size.
