Rangers Waive Vincent Iorio

The New York Rangers have made one more roster decision before opening night. Defenseman Vincent Iorio has been placed on waivers per PuckPedia. He becomes the odd-man-out in a race with Matthew Robertson and Scott Morrow for New Yorks’ extra defender roles.

The Rangers claimed Iorio off of waivers from the San Jose Sharks in February. He appeared in six games before the end of New York’s season, recording four hits and seven shot blocks. New York re-signed Iorio to a one-year contract over the summer.

A move to New York marked Iorio’s second time changing teams through waivers, after being claimed by the Sharks off of waivers from the Capitals in October 2025. He recorded three points in 21 games with San Jose.

While his NHL career has yet to take off, the 23-year-old Iorio already has firm footing as a minor-leaguer. He won the Calder Cup with the Hershey Bears in the 2022-23 and 2023-24 seasons – his first seasons at the professional level. He returned to Hershey for a full season in 2024-25 and ultimately totaled 56 points in 190 games with the Bears.

Iorio showed potential to score above those marks after moving on from the Washington Capitals organization, netting seven assists in six games with the San Jose Barracuda last season.

Iorio will be in competition with Morrow this season, likely to fill a top AHL role while Morrow works as the Rangers’ extra right-shot defender. Morrow scored six points in 29 NHL games, and 19 points in 34 AHL games, in the Rangers’ organization last season. The Hartford Wolf Pack will lean heavily on either defender as they look to work back from a last-place finish in the AHL’s Atlantic Division.
