Recap: Wranglers have score swapped by Condors and fall 5-2

Bakersfield answered back shortly after with a goal from Seth Griffith. Griffith came up on the rush and Lane Pederson set him up with a behind-the-back pass that he roofed to finish the play. This goal came at 10:14. The Condors added another before the first period came to a close with a goal from Dylan Holloway. Holloway scored at 19:07 off a shot from the slot. At the end of 20 minutes, the score was 2-1 for Bakersfield and shots were 13-8 for Calgary.

In the second, the Condors road the wave of momentum early with Adam Klapka taking a tripping call at 3:17 and then Dylan Holloway striking again at 3:38. This goal came on the power play and put the home team up 3-1 over the Wranglers. Scoring quieted down after this and just a handful of penalties made up the bulk of the action through the rest of the frame.

After 40 complete minutes of play, Bakersfield led 3-1 in goals and 12-7 in shots. Early in the third, Dylan Holloway scored his third of the night and completed his hat trick at 2:06. Holloway sprung himself on a breakaway after picking off a loose puck and put on a show for his crowd. 

This undoubtedly fired up his teammates as well and they scored their fifth goal of the night at 4:52. Philip Broberg was perfectly positioned to finish off a play with a one-timer and beat Murphy. After this goal, the Wranglers appeared to have accepted their fate and the game got a little out of control. Mitch McLain and Alex Peters fought at 8:06 and started a string of penalties over the next few minutes of play. 

Not even 30 seconds later, Alex Gallant was called for fighting as well. He also tacked on an aggressor game misconduct that pretty well ended his night. Dino Kambeitz was down on the ice and Gallant sucker-punched him in the face. William Stromgren served Gallant’s fighting major and he may face some further disciplinary action for that move. 

After all the time expired on the major calls, there was very little time left to work with. However, Calgary did get one more goal on the board before the end of the game with a marker from Adam Klapka. Klapka scored at 18:18 off a rebound he backhanded in. Jakob Pelletier and Cole Schwindt assisted on this last goal of the game.

That wrapped up this game and Calgary fell 5-2 to Bakersfield. The shots finished 28-26 for the Wranglers. The Calgary Wranglers have lost the two-position jump they made after Friday’s game and sit back in the seventh spot in the Pacific Division.

Next up 

The last four games of the season will all be played against the Abbotsford Canucks with the first two games taking place next week at the Scotiabank Saddledome. They’ll play on Thursday, Apr. 11 and Friday, Apr. 12 for two 7:00 p.m. games before going to Abbotsford the following week.
