Red Wing injured in Team USA’s win

Lyon was replaced by Red Wings prospect Trey Augustine of Michigan State. Lyon stopped all 14 shots he faced, while Augustine had 11 saves in 12 shots and picked up the win.

It was the latest strong showing for Augustine, who backstopped the U.S. to the gold medal in the World Junior Championships last winter and led Michigan State to the NCAA semifinals last month.

USA Goalies A Red Wing Show

A former Red Wing, Alex Nedeljkovic, suited up as the third goalie after Lyon’s departure. No update on Lyon’s injury or his return to action was immediately available. That leaves Team USA with goalies who are part of the Red Wings’ past (Nedeljkovic), present (Lyon) and future (Augustine).

Ly0n, who started the season as the Red Wings’ No.’ 3 goalie, played in a team-hjgh 44 games last season. He started in Team USA’s opening loss against Sweden and has stopped 47 of 50 shots his way in the tournament s far.

Defenseman Jeff Petry also saw action for the Americans.

Slovakia figures to be the stiffest competition remaining in pool play for Team USA.

After Slovakia, Team USA plays France, Poland, Kazakhstan and Latvia. The Americans were looking to get on the winning track after losing the opemer to Sweden, the strongest team in the group.

Brady Tkachuk was the playet of the game for Team USA. Mixchaek Kessering, Seth Jones, Cole Caufield and Shane Pinto each had two points.

Kesselring, Tkachuk, Johnny Gaudreau, Luke Hughes, Trevor Zegras and Michael Eyssimont scored for the Americans.

Red Wings defenseman Moritz Seiter did not play for Team Germany.
