The Nashville Predators have traded the rights to forward Sutter Muzzatti to the Detroit Red Wings in exchange for future considerations. Detroit followed the trade by signing Muzzatti to a two-year, entry-level contract.

Nashville was set to lose Muzzatti’s signing rights before the start of the regular season after leaving the 2023 draft pick unsigned. The Predators had the summer to find a deal with the 6-foot-6 winger, who wrapped up his fifth and final year of college hockey last season.

Muzzatti joined the Notre Dame Fighting Irish for the 2025-26 campaign after four years at RPI. Never a stranger to scoring, Muzzatti still found his way towards a breakout year in his age-23 season. He scored 13 goals and 32 points in 37 games with the Fighting Irish, finishing second on the team in goals and points. It was a standout performance among a quiet Notre Dame offense, though not without its drawbacks away from the puck.

Detroit will now bank on Muzzatti’s scoring as he translates to the pro flight. It could be a shrewd bet after the collosal forward totaled 50 points in 78 games at RPI. He also found his way to strong scoring in the NAHL, America’s second-tier junior league, leading the Austin Bruins with 46 points in 50 games of the 2021-22 season. While his mobility and awareness will need some work, Muzzatti’s physical profile and ability to dominate space make him hard to ignore. He is also a reliable puck-handler and shooter – often difficult attributes to hone in such a large frame. The Red Wings could polish Muzzatti into a gem one day – though that journey will likely begin in the Grand Rapids Griffins’ bottom-six next season.
