Red Wings' Jakub Vrana enters NHL/NHLPA player assistance program

The Detroit Red Wings will be without forward Jakub Vrana for the foreseeable future.

On Wednesday, the NHL and NHLPA announced that Vrana had been placed in the league's player assistance program. There is no timetable for his return to the ice.

"Jakub Vrana of the Detroit Red Wings will be unavailable to his Club for an indefinite period while he receives care from the player assistance program of the NHL and NHLPA," a statement from the NHL read.

Vrana missed the Red Wings' most recent contest against the Los Angeles Kings on Monday, scratched for "personal reasons."

The 26-year-old did play in Detroit's first two games of the season, but sparingly. Vrana averaged only 11:36 minutes of ice time, more than two minutes below his career average.

Vrana netted a goal and an assist in his two games this season.

Formerly a first-round pick of the Washington Capitals in 2014, Vrana is in his third season with the Red Wings since being acquired in a trade in 2021.

Last season, Vrana tallied 19 points (13 goals, 6 assists) in 26 games for Detroit.

A member of the Capitals' 2018 Stanley Cup Championship team, Vrana has compiled 189 points (98 goals, 91 assists) over 323 career NHL games with the Capitals and Red Wings.
