Although the Detroit Red Wings are working to resolve Dylan Larkin’s trade request, the team made another transaction ahead of tonight’s game against the Chicago Blackhawks. According to a team announcement, the Red Wings recalled forward Sheldon Dries under emergency conditions and reassigned netminder Michal Postava.
It’s the second time Dries has been recalled under emergency conditions this season. He first got called up in October when Detroit lost Mason Appleton, J.T. Compher, and Marco Kasper to injuries. This time, because Larkin refuses to play for the Red Wings until he is traded, Detroit unexpectedly needed another forward for tonight’s contest.
Dries managed six appearances for the Red Wings during his first call-up, though he was mostly unnoticeable. He went scoreless in those games with a -3 rating, and averaged 9:45 of ice time per game. Still, he made his physical presence known, averaging over three hits per game. He has understandably been more offensively productive in the AHL, scoring five goals and eight points in four games throughout his third season with the AHL’s Grand Rapids Griffins.
Meanwhile, Postava returns to AHL Grand Rapids after debuting in the NHL. Despite earning his first win against the Edmonton Oilers, Postava was no longer needed on the roster with John Gibson and Daniil Tarasov fully healthy. In his two appearances with the Red Wings, Postava managed a 1-0-0 record with an .886 SV% and 2.89 GAA.
