rowney carrier Rick Osentoski-USA TODAY Sports
The Detroit Red Wings made a pair of roster moves ahead of Wednesday’s clash against the Colorado Avalanche. Forwards Joe Veleno and Carter Rowney have both been added to Detroit’s active roster. Veleno, 22, was recalled from the AHL’s Grand Rapids Griffins after playing two games with the team during the Red Wings’ week off. Meanwhile, Rowney was activated off injured reserve after missing six weeks with an undisclosed injury. The 32-year-old forward last played against the San Jose Sharks on Jan. 4. Rowney has been a key defensive cog for the Red Wings while healthy this season and has two goals and four points in 22 games with the team. Veleno was the Red Wings’ second first-round pick in 2018 (after Filip Zadina) and is currently playing in his first full National Hockey League season with the team. He has four goals and seven points in 35 games with the Red Wings in 2021–22. It remains to be seen if Veleno or Rowney (or both) will be in the lineup when the Red Wings take on the Colorado Avalanche on Wed
