The Detroit Red Wings and the Colorado Avalanche meet in a game that brings back memories of one of hockey’s greatest rivalries. While this is a regular-season matchup, it has the feel of something bigger, with both teams sitting near the top of the league and aiming for a deep playoff run.

Colorado comes into the game with an impressive 35-8-9 record and 79 points. For most of the season, the Avalanche have looked like an unstoppable team. They became just the fourth team in league history to record multiple double-digit winning streaks in a single season, showing how dominant they were early on.

Meanwhile, Detroit has also had a strong year and currently sits at 32-17-6. However, the Red Wings are also not in their best form right now. They are coming off a 4-3 shootout loss to the Washington Capitals, their third loss in four games.

What We Know So Far About The Red Wings vs. Avalanche Game

Much of Colorado’s success still depends on Nathan MacKinnon, who continues to have a standout season. MacKinnon leads the Avalanche with 38 goals and 50 assists. He is on pace for 141 points if he plays all remaining games, which would put him among a few players in NHL history with multiple 140-point seasons.

Meanwhile, Detroit’s offense is led by Lucas Raymond, who has been one of the Red Wings’ most consistent players. Raymond has 18 goals and 40 assists this season and continues to play a big role in key moments. He is also close to a franchise milestone, sitting one goal away from tying Sergei Fedorov for the fourth-most goals by a Red Wings player aged 23 or younger.

This game will be a good opportunity for both teams to get back to winning ways. Colorado will look to get back on track and stretch the lead at the top, while Detroit will also try to bounce back.
