A big piece of news dropped late last night in the National Hockey League and for fans of the potential return of the Quebec Nordiques.
As reported by The Athletic , we learned that NHL commissioner Gary Bettman has started preparing for his departure.
He will therefore be replaced in a couple of years.
Following this news, we immediately wonder what the impacts of such a decision could be, especially regarding the possible return of the Quebec Nordiques.
Could Bettman's departure favor the return of the Nordiques?
It will obviously depend on the philosophy of the next commissioner.
If Bill Daly is Bettman's replacement, it probably won't change much in my opinion, but if the next NHL commissioner is open to the return of the Nordiques, it could absolutely change everything.
We mentioned it earlier, but on BPM Sports, journalist Renaud Lavoie stated the following:
Gary Bettman is preparing for retirement: Steve Yzerman suggested by Renaud Lavoie
Here's a name that could be extraordinary for the return of the Nordiques.
"He's played the game.. and he's Canadian, which could help the cause of hockey in the country. The journalist emphasized this point."

It's definitely a story to follow closely, but this news of Gary Bettman's imminent departure (in a few years) could certainly give new hope to Quebec Nordiques fans.
