The Chicago Blackhawks are not prepared to dismantle their team at the trade deadline. Unlike most teams toward the bottom of the standings, the Hawks are signing players that they see as meaningful pillars for the next few bridge years of the Kyle Davidson rebuild. The team locked up Nick Foligno and Jason Dickinson in recent weeks and now it appears it is Petr Mrazek's turn.
According to Kevin Weekes, Mrazek and the Blackhawks have agreed to a two-year contract extension worth " north of $8 million". As discussed on the most recent Four Feathers Pod, we expected a number right around what Foligno and Dickinson received. After receiving $4.5 million AAV and $4.25 million AAV, respectively, Mrazek's number will hover somewhere around $4 million and $4.25 million AAV.

I’m told the @NHLBlackhawks are re signing their top G Petr Mrazek to a 2 Yr Contract Extension worth slighty north of $8 Million. #Blackhawks #HockeyX #HockeyTwitter pic.twitter.com/v3k6iFmei0
Mrazek has been really good for a depleted Blackhawks team this season. In 32 games played (30 starts), Mrazek sports a 12-17-1 record. In addition, Mrazek carries a .907 save percentage and 3.01 goals against average. Although on the surface the numbers might not seem spectacular, Mrazek's play has kept the Hawks in many more games than they might have deserved to be in this season.
With Mrazek under contract, the Blackhawks have a logical bridge to the next wave of goaltenders. With the shaky start to Arvid Soderblom's NHL career, Mrazek provides a stable veteran in net while Drew Commesso and Adam Gajan continue to develop within the organization and at the collegiate level.
UPDATE:
According to Frank Seravelli, Petr Mrazek's contract extension is two years worth $4.25 million per season.
Mrazek and the Blackhawks make their second stop of the four-game road trip in Seattle on Wednesday night. Puck drop is scheduled for 9:00 p.m. CST on TNT.
