According to a report from NHL insider Frank Seravalli, defenseman Luke Hughes of the New Jersey Devils suffered a dislocated shoulder during Monday night’s game at the Calgary Flames.

Hughes left the game with his injury after just 13 shifts and 9:31 of ice time as the Devils picked up a much-needed victory by a 2-1 margin in overtime thanks to a Simon Nemec game-winner.

Head coach Sheldon Keefe told the media after the game that Hughes would miss time, but added that he would still be evaluated further.

In 49 games of action this season, the youngest Hughes brother has 5 goals and 21 assists for 26 points while skating to a minus-8 rating on an average of 23:04 of time on ice per night.

Hughes is in the first year of a seven-year, $63 million contract extension that he and the Devils worked out on October 1, just before the start of the regular season.

The win on Monday night allowed New Jersey to jump Columbus and move back into sixth place in the Metropolitan Division. After a scorching hot start to their season, the Devils have slumped for the better part of two months, relinquishing their early division lead and falling out of the playoff picture altogether.

With a record of 25-22-2, New Jersey sits five points back of the cut line for the second wild card spot in an Eastern Conference that has seen little in the way of separation built up among teams outside of Tampa Bay, Carolina and Detroit.

The Devils’ win over Calgary means they’ve now won three of their past four games to answer a four-game losing streak. New Jersey will look to continue its run of positive play as the road trip to the West rolls on with successive stops in Edmonton, Vancouver and Seattle to close out the week.
