Report: Maple Leafs prospect Ben Danford traded to Brantford Bulldogs from Oshawa Generals

Toronto Maple Leafs prospect Ben Danford is reportedly on the move in the OHL.

Reports began surfacing Wednesday night that Danford, captain of the OHL’s Oshawa Generals, was traded from the Oshawa Generals to the Brantford Bulldogs. According to Joshua Kloke of The Athletic, the trade is still being worked out and isn’t official yet.

Sounds like Maple Leafs prospect Ben Danford could be on the move from the Oshawa Generals to the Brantford Bulldogs.

Trade not done and teams working on it.

Brantford is undefeated in OHL so far and Danford could get another possible chance at a Memorial Cup.

Danford, 19, was a first-round pick of the Maple Leafs in the 2024 NHL Draft at 31st overall and is second on The Leafs Nation’s latest prospect rankings. Oshawa is struggling to begin the 2025-26 OHL season, currently sitting second-last in the Eastern Conference with a record of 5-10-0. Brantford is undefeated in regulation and lead the Eastern Conference with a record of 11-0-2-1 (two overtime losses and one shootout loss).

It’s been a bit of a slow start offensively for Danford this season, with one goal and four points in eight games, but on the other hand, he was never drafted for his offensive abilities. His defensive game has been marvelled at by coaches around the OHL, voted as the best defensive defenceman and shot-blocker in the 2024-25 OHL coaches’ poll. Danford was also mentored by Jake Muzzin at development camp and cites Chris Tanev as an influence on how he plays. Danford spoke about the mentorship he received from Muzzin after being drafted.

“I’ve been a Leafs fan my whole life and watched him. I definitely looked up to him, so to get to know him and learn from him, it’s really special,” Danford said of Muzzin’s impact via TSN’s Mark Masters.

If this trade materializes, Danford will be thrown right into the thick of a playoff race, which could do wonders for his production this season. He’ll be joining fellow Leafs draft pick Sam McCue, along with a number of other first-round picks including defenceman Adam Jiricek (St. Louis Blues), Jake O’Brien (Seattle Kraken) and Marek Vanacker (Chicago Blackhawks).
