The Pittsburgh Penguins have added former 21st overall draft pick Robby Fabbri on a professional tryout, according to Matt Vensel of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

The 29-year-old forward skated in 44 regular season games for the Anaheim Ducks last season, where he tallied 16 points (eight goals, eight assists).

Fabbri was a member of the 2018-19 St. Louis Blues team that captured the Stanley Cup. He recorded one goal in 10 games that postseason. The 5-foot-10 forward registered 73 points (32 goals, 41 assists) across 164 regular season games in St. Louis.

The Blues traded Fabbri to the Detroit Red Wings early into the 2019-20 season. He appeared in 234 regular season games for the Wings, collecting 66 goals and 61 assists prior to his short spell in Anaheim.

Fabbri’s career has been slowed by recurring knee injuries. His lone season in Anaheim was interrupted by a November knee surgery. An upper-body injury sustained in February ended his 2024-25 season.

Under new head coach Dan Muse, the Penguins are having a wide-open competition for secondary scoring lineup options.

Fabbri twice recorded 18 goals in his 2015-16 rookie season in St. Louis and in 2023-24 for Detroit. He has some goal-scoring punch left – but he’ll have to shake off injury concerns.
