The Minnesota Wild are bringing in forward Brett Leason on a professional tryout (PTO) ahead of training camp, according to The Athletic’s Michael Russo.

Leason, 26, spent the 2024-25 season with the Anaheim Ducks, scoring five goals and 12 assists for 17 points in 62 regular-season games. Through four NHL seasons, Leason has 25 goals and 29 assists for 54 points in 220 career regular-season games with the Ducks and Washington Capitals.
He’s also played in one Stanley Cup Playoff game with the Capitals in 2022.
Leason, who was taken by the Capitals in the second round of the 2019 NHL Entry Draft, spent three seasons in the American Hockey League (AHL) with Washington’s minor-league affiliate, the Hershey Bears, scoring 18 goals recording and 29 assists for 47 points in 114 regular-season games.
A native of Calgary, Alta., Leason spent parts of four seasons playing junior hockey in the Western Hockey League (WHL), recording 60 goals and 80 assists for 140 points in 190 career regular-season games with the Tri-City Americans and Prince Albert Raiders.
His best statistical season came in 2018-19 with the Raiders, when he scored 36 goals and posted a team-leading 53 assists and 89 points. That spring, he led the team in both assists and points, helping Prince Alberta win the Ed Chynoweth Cup as WHL champions.
The Wild finished the 2024-25 season with a 45-30-7 record and 97 points, finishing fourth in the Central Division and clinching a Wild Card spot in the Western Conference. They were eliminated by the Vegas Golden Knights in six games in the first round.
