The war to land Rick Tocchet's services is winding down, as NHL insider Darren Dreger revealed three teams are all bidding in an attempt to land him.
Rick Tocchet will not be unemployed for long following his resignation from the Vancouver Canucks. Dozens of NHL teams, including the Philadelphia Flyers, Boston Bruins, and Seattle Kraken, are already eager to hire the veteran coach as their own.
NHL insider Darren Dreger revealed the news that the aforementioned three teams will all be making a bid for him and that we may already have a winner announced in seven days.
Tocchet, 61, departed Vancouver when his three-year deal expired at the end of the 2024-25 season. The Canucks did have a fourth-year option but chose not to re-sign him.
The team finished fifth in the Pacific Division with 90 points and narrowly missed the playoffs.
Tocchet is 108-65-27 (.608) in Vancouver and was awarded the Jack Adams Award for the 2023-24 season after leading the Canucks to a division championship and 50-win campaign.
Tocchet has also served as a head coach of the Tampa Bay Lightning (2008-2010) and the Arizona Coyotes (2017-2021). His overall coaching record is 286-265-87 (.516).
As a player, Tocchet wore the equipment for 1,144 NHL games over 18 seasons with six teams, including the Flyers, Penguins, and Bruins.
He scored 952 points (440 goals, 512 assists), was a three-time All-Star, and won a Stanley Cup as a member of Pittsburgh in 1992. He also won Canada Cups for Team Canada in 1987 and 1991.
The Canucks have appeared in the playoffs only five times since their loss in the 2011 Stanley Cup Final.
