Ridly Greig's slapshot into the Maple Leafs empty net caused chaos, and now the Ottawa Senators are immortalizing the moment in bobblehead form.
Back in February of 2024, the Ottawa Senators and Toronto Maple Leafs were battling it out, and on this fateful night, it was the Senators that got the best of the matchup.
In the closing seconds, Ridly Greig took a slapshot on an empty net, causing chaos between the two bitter Ontario rivals, with Morgan Rielly being suspended five games for a brutal cross check to the head of his opponent as a result.
Now, the Senators have chosen to immortalize that moment next season, as they will be giving away a bobblehead on January 10th of Greig taking that slapshot into the Maple Leafs open net.
Unsurprisingly, they've been given plenty of grief on social media as a result, but given how big the moment was in the history of the organization, it's no surprise that they've chosen this moment, although it's a shock that they're not giving them away in a matchup with Toronto.
The moment itself caused plenty of backlash, with some believing that Rielly was in the right to go after Greig for what he did, while most believe that the cross check to the face was taking it a little too far.
Ultimately though, it was one of the biggest moments in recent NHL regular season play, and with the Senators lacking any other big, iconic moments, it's easy to see why they chose this one to be immortalized in bobblehead form.
