The Florida Panthers needed a moment of playoff magic to even the Stanley Cup Final on Friday night, and Brad Marchand delivered it.
With 8:05 gone in double overtime, Marchand scored his second goal of the game to seal a 5–4 win over the Edmonton Oilers and tie the series at one game apiece.
The win came after Florida allowed the latest game-tying goal in Final history, when Corey Perry made it 4–4 with 17.8 seconds left in regulation.
Marchand’s game-winner was his 10th career goal in the Stanley Cup Final, giving him the most among all active NHL players, overtaking the very own Perry.
Favorite player of all time

It was also the second time this postseason that he scored in overtime to rescue a trailing series after scoring in Game 3 of the series against the Toronto Maple Leafs when the Panthers trailed Toronto 2–0.
Florida acquired Marchand at the trade deadline from the Bruins, bringing in a proven veteran with vast postseason experience.
One former opponent who took notice of the goal and experienced Marchand's postseason chops firsthand was goalie Roberto Luongo.
Now a Panthers' executive and member of the Hockey Hall of Fame, Luongo shared a cryptic but rather obvious message given the context of the shared past between him and Marchand.
"Favorite player of all time," Luongo posted on X moments after the game-winning goal.
For context, Marchand tormented Luongo in the 2011 Stanley Cup Final, scoring five goals over seven games as the Bruins defeated Luongo’s Canucks for the title. It was the closest Luongo came to winning the Cup as a player.
Now, more than a decade later, Marchand and Luongo are on the same side, chasing a title together in Florida after the goalie-turned-exec already won it last year, watching from the office.
"Luo’s awesome, he’s an incredible person," Marchand said. "Happy to be on his teams."
