Rinkside NHL reporter Jackie Redmond released a statement after fans accused Hurricanes head coach Rod Brind'Amour of being disrespectful toward her.

The Carolina Hurricanes are now in summer mode after being eliminated from the Stanley Cup Playoffs by the Florida Panthers, who now have a chance to claim their 2nd straight title.

There was controversy during the 1st period of the game in which Hurricanes coach Rod Brind'Amour was accused of disrespect toward rinkside TNT reporter Jackie Redmond during a live-game interview.

But she's set the record straight and pushed back on any notion of feeling disrespected by saying that Brind'Amour was anything but.

And anyone who says this is Brind'Amour disrespecting me - he's one of nicest coaches I've worked with. We have great relationship.

And disrespect would be giving me one word or not even doing the interview. MANY teams would gas the interview in THAT spot. Rod didn't. Just FYI.

Brind'Amour was in a sour mood because of what he felt were unfair penalty calls against his club at the time of the interview, which was conducted during a stoppage in play and then aired upon a return from a television commercial break.

She asked:

With the way this game is being managed so far, what's the message to the group about how to handle it from here?

He answered:

Great question. These aren't real penalties and that's how the series has gone, so, we have to stop the hitting and just go play. I don't know, I'm a little frustrated as you can tell.

Brind'Amour and the Hurricanes were knocked from the postseason in the ECF by the Panthers for the second time in three years.
