The Toronto Maple Leafs are expecting some big changes this off-season, and now speculation of an MLSE board meeting has accelerated those rumours.
While they were expected to compete for a Stanley Cup in 2025, the Maple Leafs once again fell short before getting out of the second round, and that leads many to believe some changes are coming.
It appears as though both Brad Treliving and Craig Berube are safe, given that they've only been in Toronto for two and one seasons respectively, but as for Brendan Shanahan, it might be the end.
Those rumours have only grown since there have been rumblings of an MLSE board meeting later this week, with many Maple Leafs fans waiting to see some big changes to the organization before they can believe in their team once again.
Mitch Marner and John Tavares are just two pieces that could be gone from a team that has failed over and over again in these past nine years, but with the rumblings, it's become more and more clear that it's Shanahan's job that is on the line.
Following 11 years of building this team in what many affectionately referred too as the 'Shanaplan', it's clear that there's been no meaningful success and no improvements, and it may be time for him to move on.
According to Nick Alberga on Tuesday, there has been no official word from MLSE on the future of Shanahan at this point, but with both the General Manager and Head Coach being new to their tenure's in Toronto, if a change is coming, it has to be involving their President of Hockey Operations.
This is certainly a story to keep an eye on this week, as Toronto fans are desperate for some change this summer, and with plenty of salary cap space, if the team can move on from Shanahan and make some significant changes to the roster, it may have those fans believing again.
