The Nashville Predators‘ sixth all-time leading scorer has officially hung up his skates.

On Thursday, center Ryan Johansen announced his retirement from professional hockey after a 13-year career in the NHL.

Johansen, 33, has not played in the NHL since the 2023-24 season, when he had 13 goals and 10 assists for 23 points in 63 games for the Colorado Avalanche. He was dealt to the Philadelphia Flyers at that year’s trade deadline. After the trade, he cleared waivers and Philadelphia attempted to assign him to the AHL. However, due to an injury that was discovered during the trade, the Flyers were compelled to keep him on the NHL roster. The following offseason, he was placed on unconditional waivers.

The Vancouver native was selected fourth overall by the Columbus Blue Jackets in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft. In his third season, he broke out as a high-end top-six center, with 33 goals and 30 assists for 63 points in 82 games during the 2013-14 season. In the 2014-15 season, he notched 26 goals and 45 assists for a career-best 71 points in 82 games while being named to the NHL’s All-Star Game.

The perhaps most significant moment of his career came partway throught the 2015-16 season, when he was dealt to Nashville in a blockbuster trade for defenseman Seth Jones.

Johansen would thrive over seven-plus seasons as a Predator. He was a central figure in Nashville’s run to the Stanley Cup Finals in 2017, contributing three goals and 10 assists for 13 points in 14 postseason games that year. Over 533 regular season games for the Predators, he compiled 110 goals and 252 assists for 362 points, which places him sixth on the franchise’s all-time scoring list.

Over 905 career NHL games, Johansen put up 202 goals and 376 assists for 578 total points.
