Place of Birth: Wilmette, IL, USA

NHL Draft Eligibility: 2025 first-year eligible

Rankings

Ryker Lee, a 6-foot, 180-pound forward, is averaging over a point per game and is in a fierce competition with Ethan Wyttenbach for the United States Hockey League (USHL) rookie scoring title. Lee has recorded 19 goals and 42 points through 34 games, putting him just three points behind Wyttenbach. He has accumulated seven points in his last four games (four goals and three assists). His 42 points currently rank eighth among all USHL players, and the Michigan State commit has been particularly effective on the power play. Lee has been a consistent point producer this season, recording a point in 23 of his 34 games. He has also achieved 12 multi-point games, including a hat trick on Jan. 17 and a four-goal game on Nov. 15.

Lee’s most valuable skill is his powerful shot, which includes an explosive wrist shot and a booming one-timer, both known for their remarkable accuracy. He expertly uses a curl-and-drag wrist shot to maneuver around opponents’ sticks and avoid checks, often utilizing his competitors as screens. Off the puck, he demonstrates a high hockey IQ by positioning himself where the play is headed, allowing him to find good spots to unleash his shots. While his playmaking is often viewed as a secondary skill, he deserves more recognition for the advantages his precise passing brings to the game.

His puck skills are well above average. He features a variety of deceptive one-on-one moves, including dekes and fakes, that allow him to fool defenders and navigate through traffic. He frequently uses these moves to cut inside or rush the crease, displaying a dynamic ability to split the defense or make opponents look foolish in tight spaces.

His excellent puck protection complements these talents. He expertly maintains control outside his opponent’s reach while pushing through checks. His stocky build and strength make it difficult for opponents to knock him off the puck. Lee is also a physical player with some power. He isn’t afraid to drop a shoulder to drive toward the middle or the net, and he has no problem scoring in less glamorous ways.

Unfortunately, Lee’s mobility is only average at best. While his top speed is decent, he requires a long runway to reach it. There is work to be done on the mechanics of his stride, which appears stiff and choppy, and his agility also seems lacking. To worsen this issue, he plays at a slower pace than he should. Most of the shortcomings in his game stem from his poor skating; if he improves this aspect and learns to play with a faster pace, he could become a significant asset.

Ryker Lee – NHL Draft Projection

He demonstrates solid positioning in his zone but struggles to apply the necessary pressure to be disruptive on the ice. Unfortunately, his effort and engagement are often inconsistent. His lack of motor and effort can be evident across various aspects of his game. He is still quite raw and will require more development time than some other players. Luckily, he will receive that opportunity at Michigan State, where he is committed for the 2025-26 season. Expect to see him selected in the late second or early third round of the 2025 Draft.

Quotables

“Few players in the draft can match up to Lee’s highlight reel. He constantly exposes defenders with a myriad of solutions: spin passes, feints, tape-to-tape saucer passes, there seems to be no limit to what Lee can imagine.” – Dobber Prospects

“Ryker Lee is just fun. With the puck on his stick he’s able to make high-end plays, but without the finishing execution that will take his game to another level.” –  Smaht Scouting

Under Construction/Improvements to Make

NHL Potential

The offense is there, as is his IQ to make the plays and the shot to finish. With some years to develop his speed and skating further, he can be a beast offensively. His size is a significant factor compared to the rest of the NHL, but an easy comparison is Alex Debrincat. If he follows the same path, he can easily be a 25-30 goal scorer while utilizing his size and skill to the best of his ability.

Risk-Reward Analysis

Risk –4/5, Reward – 4.5/5

Fantasy Hockey Potential

Offense – 8.5/10, Defence – 5.5/10

Awards/Achievements

2020-2021 USA Tier I 14U National Champion
2023-2024 Hlinka Gretzky Cup Bronze Medal
2024-2025 WJAC-19 Champion

Elliotte Friedman Confirms Sidney Crosby's Trade Fate This Summer

Sidney Crosby's name has been hot in trade talks as of late, but now top NHL Insider Elliotte Friedman confirms where the Penguins star will be playing next season. For months now, fans, reporters and insiders have been speculating on the future of Sidney Crosby, with many seeing the final few years of his career as an opportunity to chase another Stanley Cup elsewhere, especially after the Penguins have missed the Stanley Cup Playoffs for three straight seasons. So much so that some top Insiders have speculated he could leave the Penguins for his home country of Canada, but as of right now, there's no indication that he has any intention of leaving soon. Now, Elliotte Friedman has provided a final and definitive update, revealing on the latest 32 Thoughts podcast episode that Crosby is listed as a member of the Penguins on the media tour info ahead of the 2025/26 season, meaning that he won't be moved before the season begins. After months and months of constant updates, predictions and shock headlines, this should finally put an end to all of that, with Crosby slated to be in Pittsburgh for the start of the year, and unless something drastic changes, he's likely to remain there for the foreseeable future. Ultimately, there's always the chance that Crosby decides to request a trade to chase one final Stanley Cup with the long-time captain nearing 38 years of age, but as of right now, his commitment remains to the team that he's been with for the past two decades, and until something changes, that commitment will continue to remain strong.

The cold, hard truth is that the Washington Commanders have all of the leverage in the Terry McLaurin contract standoff

The saga between the Washington Commanders and All-Pro WR Terry McLaurin has taken many twists and turns, and it's slowly gotten worse as the summer drags on. McLaurin has been the only side of the negotiations to make any type of move to push leverage and get a deal done sooner rather than later. He's done everything possible from publicly speaking out against the team, sitting out of training camp, returning to camp, and then recently made his biggest power move by requesting a trade. Even after playing every card in his hand this offseason to get leverage on the team, the Commanders still have the upper hand on McLaurin, and absolutely nothing can change that. Why McLaurin won't be traded There have been reports that teams such as the Pittsburgh Steelers have called to check in on trading for McLaurin, and that shouldn't be a surprise. The thing is, though, he will not be traded, and there are a lot of factors that prohibit it from happening. McLaurin is likely worth a second-round pick, in my opinion, but the fact that he allegedly wants a contract extension that averages to about $33 million per year hurts that trade value. No team in the NFL would trade a second round pick while giving a soon to be 30 yeard old WR a new contract worth that much. The Commanders very likely wouldn't receive a trade package worth accepting for their best weapon on offense and get the immediate payoff this season. McLaurin very likely doesn't want to even be traded in the first place. Neither side actually wants McLaurin out of Washington. The likely outcomes for McLaurin and the Commanders There are only two possible outcomes for McLaurin this season: he's either going to be extended, or he's going to have to play the final year of his contract out. The Commanders really could play hardball with McLaurin if he refuses to come down from his number and let him play his final year of his contract out, and they know he wouldn't sit out games and lose even more money. They could either franchise tag McLaurin after the season or let him leave in free agency, so they can recoup a high-value compensation pick for losing the All-Pro. McLaurin's market would likely change drastically unless he has another career-best season, as he would be approaching 31 years old going into free agency. Both outcomes severely hurt what McLaurin is looking for: more money and long-term stability. No matter what McLaurin does, the Commanders hold the keys to decide his fate in Washington. The two can meet in the middle on a number that makes sense, or this could drag into next season, where we do this all again.

‘Wants to end up in Boston’… Celtics still favorites to sign breakout star who will snub ‘last resort’

With training camps approaching in one month, the Boston Celtics could add an interesting player to their roster. This addition would provide depth to their center rotation, which remains a significant hole they need to address. Currently, the Boston Celtics’ center rotation includes Xavier Tillman, Luka Garza, and Neemias Queta. All three players either lack experience or consistent production, and none match the quality of their previous rotation featuring Kristaps Porzingis, Al Horford, and Luke Kornet. The potential addition doesn’t reach the caliber of Porzingis or Horford, and isn’t even close to Kornet’s level. However, there’s development potential given that he’s only 24 years old. Charles Bassey, the former San Antonio Spurs player who competed with the Celtics during last summer’s league, has emerged as the candidate in question. Bassey chooses NBA over European opportunity NBA insider Noa Dazzell reported that Bassey prefers playing for the Celtics next season rather than accepting an overseas offer with Partizan Belgrade in the Serbian League. “He’s not currently planning on going overseas, that seems to be pretty unlikely, and almost like a last resort type of thing. And right now, I think, you know, he feels pretty confident that he’s going to play in the NBA next season,” Dazzell explained. “He currently still views the Celtics as a top destination, and really, really wants to end up in Boston. And that’s not me saying that that’s going to happen, but that’s a top priority for him. He loves the culture. He loves the fact that they’ve been in the playoffs routinely. It’s a culture of winning, the coaches,” she added. Boston has roster spot available for potential signing The Celtics maintain one open roster spot that could accommodate Bassey’s addition. His summer league performance with Boston demonstrated his potential value to the organization. “He really wants to come to the Celtics. We’ll see whether it works out right now. Boston has one remaining roster spot that’s open,” Dazzell noted. Bassey’s summer league production included impressive numbers of 15.3 points, 11.0 rebounds, and 2.0 blocks per game. These statistics explain why other teams like Partizan Belgrade have shown interest in acquiring his services, as well as the fact that he is athletic rim‑runner with elite length and shot‑blocking instincts. His strong summer showing could translate to meaningful NBA contributions if he maintains his health and development trajectory. Injury history creates concern about reliability Bassey has struggled with health issues throughout his NBA career, frequently dealing with injuries that have limited his availability. His most significant setback came with an ACL injury in 2023 that restricted him to only 19 games that season. Last season with the Spurs, he appeared in 36 games while averaging modest numbers of 4.4 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 0.8 blocks per game. The limited production reflects both his role and ongoing health challenges. His injury history raises questions about long-term reliability, but his youth and potential upside could make him worth the risk for a team who needs depth in the center area like Boston.

Tiger Woods Sends Strong Message to Retiring CBS Broadcaster on Sunday

At Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro, North Carolina, Sunday’s final round of the 2025 Wyndham Championship closed out the PGA Tour’s regular season. It also marked the end of an era for one of golf’s most revered broadcasters. For the last time, Ian Baker-Finch manned the hole-announcing microphone for CBS Sports, capping 30 years in the booth following a playing career that peaked with his victory at the 1991 Open Championship. Before the day was over, Tiger Woods took to X to salute "Finchy." "Congrats Finchy for 30 incredible years behind the microphone. You brought insight into things that the viewing audience could understand and relate to. From all of us—thanks for the memories." The message joined tributes from Jack Nicklaus, Jason Day, Adam Scott and others, underscoring Baker-Finch’s standing among champions past and present. Ian Baker-Finch: From Major Champion to Broadcast Mainstay Baker-Finch turned pro in 1979, winning 17 professional tournaments worldwide. His lone major title came at Royal Birkdale in 1991, where he secured the Open Championship by five strokes. After retiring in the mid-1990s, Baker-Finch transitioned smoothly into broadcasting. He cut his teeth as an analyst on Australian television before joining ESPN and ABC in 1998. In 2007, he became CBS Sports’ dedicated hole announcer, a role he held through 2025, calling golf’s defining moments with a blend of technical acumen and warm delivery. Over 19 seasons with CBS, he covered five Masters and contributed to countless PGA Tour telecasts. Throughout Woods’ five green-jacket haul (1997, 2001, 2002, 2005, 2019), Baker-Finch was a trusted on-course voice that helped demystify championship golf for television audiences. As a player, Baker-Finch remains one of only seven Australian men to win a major championship and is one of a select few to dominate links golf on British soil. As a broadcaster, Baker-Finch’s voice guided generations of fans through golf’s signature moments, shaping how millions understand the game’s subtleties. When the G.O.A.T. of professional golf uses his platform to honor your contribution to the sport, it signals a broadcast career worth remembering.
