Eric Robinson Ed Mulholland-USA TODAY Sports

The Buffalo Sabres acquired forward Eric Robinson from the Columbus Blue Jackets in exchange for a conditional seventh-round pick in the 2025 NHL Entry Draft, the Sabres announced on Wednesday.

The team also announced that it had loaned forward Brandon Biro to their AHL affiliate, the Rochester Americans, as a corresponding move.

Robinson, a 28-year-old winger, has one goal in seven games at the NHL level this season. With the AHL’s Cleveland Monsters, he’s posted one goal and four assists for five points in nine games.

He played in the Blue Jackets’ 4-3 loss to the Los Angeles Kings on Tuesday night, recording two shots and 16:43 of ice time.

An undrafted free agent signed out of Princeton University, Robinson has spent all seven of his professional seasons with the Blue Jackets organization, logging 38 goals and 44 assists for 82 points in 266 career NHL games. He’s averaged 12:55 of ice time during that time.

Robinson recorded a career-high 27 points in 2021-22, scoring 10 goals and 17 assists in 67 games.

It’s been a tough start to the 2023-24 season for the Sabres, with a 10-14-2 record and 22 points in their first 26 games. They’re currently on a four-game losing streak and sit seventh in the Eastern Conference’s Atlantic Division, having gone 3-6-1 in their last 10 games.

The Sabres play their next contest on Thursday on the road against the Boston Bruins.

As for the Blue Jackets, they’re as bad as anyone in the league, with an 8-14-5 record and 21 points, currently occupying last place in the Metropolitan Division. The Blue Jackets have lost two straight and are 4-5-1 in their last 10 games.

The Blue Jackets’ next game is Thursday night on the road against the New York Islanders.
