Sabres' Pending RFA Bowen Byram Makes Pivotal Offseason Move

Bowen Byram's future in Buffalo is up in the air, and after switching agents, it appears as though his time with the struggling Sabres may be coming to an end.

The 2024/25 campaign was the best in the career of young defenseman Bowen Byram, and ahead of restricted free agency this summer, there's been plenty of speculation about his future with the Buffalo Sabres.

While he's not against re-signing with the team, there has been reports that Byram could be a trade candidate or even the target of an offer sheet in the off-season, and with the way the team have struggled for years, it wouldn't be a surprise to see him moved this summer.

Now, we have another indication of Byram's future, as it was officially revealed on Friday that the 23-year old has swapped agencies, and will now be represented by Quartexx Hockey, the same agency that represents the likes of Mitch Marner, Sam Bennett, Nazem Kadri and many others.

It's unclear if this will 100% lead to a move in the off-season, but given that the team likely don't want to pay him after handing Owen Power and Rasmus Dahlin major deals on the blue line, and with the potential return in a trade, it appears as though things are headed that way.

With a career high of 38 points and an impressive +11 on a struggling Sabres team, Byram has proven that he can be a genuine contributor at the NHL level, and with many teams having cap space to potentially go after a rising star in the summer, don't be shocked to see several teams interested in landing him in the coming months.
