On Monday, the Buffalo Sabres placed forward Carson Meyer on waivers, making him available to the other 31 teams in the NHL.

If Meyer were to clear waivers on Tuesday, he would be eligible to be assigned to the Sabres’ American Hockey League affiliate, the Rochester Americans. He started the 2025-26 season on Buffalo’s non-rostered/injured list, and has yet to play a game.

The 28-year-old is in his first season with the organization, having signed a two-year, two-way contract with Buffalo back on July 2. The deal carries an NHL cap hit of $775,000, with a minor-league salary of $350,000 for this season, and $375,000 for the 2026-27 campaign.

Meyer comes to Western New York after spending the 2024-25 season with the Anaheim Ducks‘ organization, solely playing with the San Diego Gulls, the Ducks’ primary affiliate. There, he scored nine goals and 12 assists for 21 points in 29 games. It was a step down from the best season of his pro career the year before, when he set career highs in goals (22), assists (15) and points (37) with the Cleveland Monsters, the top farm team for the Columbus Blue Jackets.

It was during the 2023-24 campaign that Meyer last saw his name in an NHL lineup. He appeared in 14 games with the Blue Jackets that season, registering a goal and an assist along the way. The Powell, Ohio native spent the first three seasons of his pro career with the Blue Jackets. After finishing his college days at Ohio State, Meyer played a handful of games with Columbus, though he saw most of his days spent up the road in Cleveland.

In 41 NHL games, Meyer has scored two goals and four assists for six points. In 201 AHL contests, he has notched 65 goals and 66 assists for 131 points.
