The Chicago Blackhawks’ 2024 first-round pick sat down with the media on Wednesday. There, he talked about his diet and muscle growth, as well as his excitement for the upcoming year.
One of the storylines for the Chicago Blackhawks this season was the apparent improvement for Sacha Boisvert. After making his debut and looking solid in seven games, recording a goal and an assist, and weighing in at about 185 pounds. Now, according to Ben Pope of the Chicago Sun-Times, that number has increased to 205 pounds. At the Upper Deck Rookie Showcase, Boisvert was asked about the offseason and said, “They’re (Chicago) just kind of just let me go and then just work out, like do my own things back home.” Curious about how Sacha made such a drastic improvement, I had the privilege of asking his father, Mr. Jimmy Boisvert, about the change.
Jimmy said that a big reason for the transformation was the ability to heal from a nagging shoulder injury stemming from an incident in October 2025. Because of this, Boisvert felt discomfort during lifts, and “[it] prevented him from going all-out with the weights, but now that he has fully recovered, his physique has transformed.”
The weekly schedule saw Sacha Boisvert with his personal weight trainer 5-6 times a week and 4-5 times on the ice. In between these sessions, Boisvert also worked out in the family-owned boxing gym. But Jimmy mentioned something interesting.
“Recently, he (Sacha) added jogging to his routine… It’s great for fitness, but also for the mental side of things.”
In our talks, Mr. Boisvert gave the Blackhawk faithful something to look forward to:
“He has set himself up perfectly for a huge season… People forget the season he had at North Dakota and the severity of his injury last season.”
“Sacha Is Back”
Every year during the Rookie Showcase, the NHL and Upper Deck bring out former and current veterans of the NHL to speak to the future generation. Two of the notable speakers included former Buffalo Sabres forward Kyle Okposo and Washington Capitals winger Tom Wilson. Boisvert mentioned Wilson by name when talking about the experience.
“So just hear it from him, like the style he plays. Like it’s obviously with I don’t want to be Tom Wilson, but obviously I want to be the kind of the type of player he is.”
Personally, I love hearing this from Boisvert. After years of being compared to every player from Evgeni Malkin to the aforementioned Tom Wilson, to even players like Brayden Schenn and Boone Jenner, Boisvert understands that what’s most important is to play his own game. That will be exciting to watch as he refines the 200-foot game that made him a first-rounder three summers ago.
After spending last summer finishing up his transfer from Boston University, this year will mark the first year of training camp for the Trois-Rivières native. After a turbulent year at Boston University, Boisvert came into the lineup and made a good impression and is now ready for his first year as a pro.
“But yeah, no, first training camp I’m really excited, really motivated, you know, like I’ve said, um, I’ve never really gone in the summer trying to, like, to make a team.”
He also mentions Patrick Kane as a source of excitement as the season will start to unfold.
Whether he starts in Rockford or Chicago, Boisvert’s development will be followed closely by the Chicago Blackhawks staff.
