The Minnesota Wild are still dealing with the ongoing contract situation around star Kirill Kaprizov, despite training camp and preseason starting up. This entire situation was expected to be simple between the two sides, but Kaprizov reportedly declined a massive contract extension from the team.
This has now created all sorts of trade rumors to come up, and the idea of the team moving the star could be real now. Minnesota would likely prefer to keep Kaprizov in town, but if the two sides can't agree on a new deal, a trade could be the best option.
Multiple teams have been linked with Kaprizov since the news of his declining the extension broke. But it remains to be seen where he could realistically land.
In a recent piece from Hannah Stuart of Bleacher Report, multiple trade offers were created for teams to land Kaprizov. One of the trade packages came from the upstart San Jose Sharks of all teams, and it makes some sense.
"The Trade Offer: Igor Chernyshov, Alexander Wennberg, and First-Round Pick
"In a universe where he isn't such a mentor to Macklin Celebrini and Will Smith, Tyler Toffoli could be that guy, but in this universe, he brings that value as well as any on-ice value. But the core idea of the trade would remain the same," wrote Stuart.
Kaprizov could head to a team that is in desperate need of a star player to lead, and the Sharks do have a collection of young talent on the roster. San Jose has been searching for ways to build itself back up toward playoff contention, and this could be one of the best ways to make it happen.
However, due to the Sharks not being a title team right now, it remains to be seen if Kaprizov would be interested in joining them. But if he was, the Sharks could start to build a potential powerhouse out in San Jose, with Kaprizov heading up the team.
