A concerning scene unfolded during an NCAA game between UNH and Boston College, the team of Canadiens prospect Jacob Fowler.
Young New Hampshire goalie Jared Whale suffered a frightening incident in the second period, forcing him to leave the ice on a stretcher and be rushed to the hospital.
Essentially, one of Whale's teammates made contact with him, and the impact was so strong that the UNH goalie collapsed to the ice and never got back up.
A very unfortunate incident.
After spending several minutes lying motionless on the ice with the medical team surrounding him, Whale had to be taken off on a stretcher.
We sincerely send him a huge wave of positive thoughts today.
'It's very, very sad to see a player leave the ice like that. It's nice to see Boston College and UNH come together to wish Whale the best after he was taken off with the UNH and BC medical staff.
More injury updates will likely follow after the game.'
- Graham Dietz
'UNH goalie Jared Whale has been lying on the ice, limbs extended, for quite some time now. It's been about three minutes.
I hope he's okay, but there haven't been any replays of what happened.'
- Graham Dietz
Due to the incident, the referees decided to send both teams to the locker rooms early for intermission.
The remainder of the second period was played after the intermission, immediately followed by the third period, which was a good decision.
Once again, we wish young goalie Whale a speedy recovery.
