The Ottawa Senators swapped depth defensemen with the Philadelphia Flyers on Monday, acquiring the left-shooting Dennis Gilbert in exchange for righty Max Guenette.

The Senators previously added Gilbert in March in a larger trade involving forwards Dylan Cozens and Josh Norris. Gilbert played four games for Ottawa during last season's stretch run and signed a one-year, $875,000 contract with Philadelphia on July 1.

Gilbert tallied one assist in six games this season for AHL affiliate Lehigh Valley. The 29-year-old veteran has 20 career points (three goals, 17 assists) in 111 NHL appearances.

Ottawa sought to add a lefty defenseman because Thomas Chabot has an upper-body injury and prospective call-up Donovan Sebrango was claimed on waivers by the Florida Panthers in October.

The Flyers signed Guenette, 24, to a one-year, two-way deal as part of the trade.

Guenette has played eight career NHL games and 236 AHL games but had yet to dress at either level this season due to a contract dispute with Ottawa.
