Senators’ Artem Zub suffers lower-body injury vs. Avalanche

The Ottawa Senators will be without defenseman Artem Zub for the rest of Saturday’s game against the Colorado Avalanche after he sustained a lower-body injury in the second period, the club announced.

Zub, 27, finished his last shift of the evening at the 15:10 mark of the second period. He logged a total of 13:30 over 15 shifts before making an early exit from the game.

The Senators currently trail the Avalanche by a 6–0 score late in the third period at Ball Arena in Denver.

Entering Saturday’s action, Zub had amassed three goals and six points while averaging 21:24 in 20 games with the Senators in the 2022–23 regular season.

The Khabarovsk, Russia product recently signed a four-year contract extension to keep him in Ottawa at a $4.6M cap hit through 2027.

Zub joined the Senators in 2020 as an undrafted free agent from SKA St. Petersburg of the Kontinental Hockey League.

The 6-foot-2, 202-pound right-handed defenseman has appeared in 149 career NHL games over parts of three seasons in Ottawa, recording 12 goals and 42 points.

The Senators currently rank seventh in the Atlantic Division with a 19–19–3 record through 41 games.

Upon the conclusion of their game against the Avalanche, they’ll have a day to recuperate before returning to action on Monday to take on the St. Louis Blues at Enterprise Center.
