Senators’ Linus Ullmark leaves game against Bruins

The injury appeared to occur late in the second period when Bruins forward JJ Peterka was tripped up by Senators defenseman Thomas Chabot while driving to the net, causing him to careen into Ullmark. The play caused a scrum behind Ottawa’s net while Ullmark was slow to get up.

Ullmark, 33, earned the win in the Senators’ season-opening 3-2 victory over the Toronto Maple Leafs on Saturday, stopping 27 of 29 shots. He gave up no goals on 10 shots before having to leave Monday’s game.

If Ullmark is forced to miss a significant amount of time for Ottawa, backup Samuel Ersson, who gave up a goal on nine shots in his first appearance of the season on Monday, would likely take on a heavier workload in the Senators’ crease.

The Swedish national posted a 28-12-8 record to go along with a .891 save percentage and a 2.73 goals-against average in 49 starts for Ottawa last season. He also spent some time away from the team as he took a leave of absence due to mental health reasons.

The Senators acquired Ullmark from Boston in June of 2024 in exchange for forward Mark Kastelic, goaltender Joonas Korpisalo, and a first-round pick. He has helped Ottawa reach the playoffs in each of the past two seasons.

With the Bruins, Ullmark won the Vezina Trophy in 2023 after a season in which he led the NHL with 40 wins, a .938 SV%, and a 1.89 GAA.

The Senators will visit the Detroit Red Wings on Tuesday before playing their home opener against the Philadelphia Flyers on Thursday.
