The NHL resumed operations this week after many teams spent roughly 10 days on pause because of COVID-19 outbreaks and concerns.
So, to make up for all that time without any hockey, the San Jose Sharks and visiting Arizona Coyotes seemingly scored as many goals as they could in what eventually became an 8-7 shootout victory for Team Teal, resulting in the first contest this season to reach 15 goals.

It's something of a dubious honor, considering high scores in hockey are usually the result of bad defense. And, as both head coaches pointed out in their postgame media availability, defense was indeed a struggle for both squads.
Nevertheless, it was an entertaining game with some pretty impressive goal-scoring -- including a marker when Sharks forward Timo Meier swatted the puck out of the air and into the net.

It was also the first time San Jose -- a team better known for scoring two, maybe three, goals a game -- had scored a whopping eight goals in almost four years.
The @SanJoseSharks scored at least eight goals in a game for the 15th time in franchise history and first since Oct. 9, 2018 (8 at PHI).#NHLStats: https://t.co/qr2tHWj7fn https://t.co/3VFZpr2LT4

The Sharks wrap up their current homestand on Thursday against the Philadelphia Flyers while the Coyotes don't play again until Sunday when they host the Dallas Stars. As fun as it was for onlookers to watch the deluge of goals, let's hope, for both defenses' sake, the goal-scoring frenzy is over.
