The San Jose Sharks have placed forward Alex Barre-Boulet on waivers per PuckPedia. Barre-Boulet began the season on San Jose’s injured reserve. Now that he’s back to full health, he will require waivers to be assigned to the minor-leagues where he has spent the majority of his eight-year professional career.

Barre-Boulet joined the Sharks organization on a two-year, two-way contract signed on July 1st. The deal seemed unlikely to affect the NHL level, where Barre-Boulet has racked up just 19 points in 72 career games. It was, however, a major upgrade for the San Jose Barracuda – adding one of the AHL’s most dangerous scorers to their ranks. Barre-Boulet scored 70 points in as many games with the Colorado Eagles last season, continuing his point-per-game scoring after notching 63 points in 64 games with the Laval Rocket in 2024-25.

Neither season matched his career-high, though. That mark came in the 2022-23 season, when Barre-Boulet reached 60 assists and 84 points in just 69 games with the Syracuse Crunch.

While he has had a wandering career across the pros, Barre-Boulet’s AHL scoring has proven inevitable. He debuted in the league with Syracuse in 2018-19. Despite joining the club as an undrafted free agent, he managed 68 points in 74 games during his rookie AHL season. Since then, only two other minor-leaguers have totaled more points – T.J. Tynan and Seth Griffith.

Barre-Boulet will be slated to join the Barracuda’s top line on the other side of his waiver designation. His presence will be sorely needed as the AHL’s San Jose nurses injuries to key forwards Cameron Lund and Quentin Musty. Both Lund and Adam Gaudette skated alongside Barre-Boulet as part of Wednesday’s practices, after Gaudette and Barre-Boulet were activated off of the Sharks’ IR.

The Barracuda have had a tough start to the 2026-27 season. They are currently 1-4-0 and have been outscored 15-to-26. The AHL’s San Jose made the postseason after finishing sixth in their division last season. Their offense was a particular spark – with the third-most goals (243) in the AHL’s Pacific Division. While Barre-Boulet will help the Barracuda climb back to those heights, they will still need the return of Lund and Musty before they’re back to full-strength.
