Sharks place Carl Grundstrom on injured reserve

Grundstrom has a goal and four assists for five points in 29 games this season. Now in his seventh NHL season, the 27-year-old winger has 41 goals and 31 assists for 72 points in 265 regular-season games with the Sharks and Los Angeles Kings.

Grundstrom’s best season was in 2022-23, where he scored 12 goals and added seven assists for 19 points in 57 regular-season games.

Grundstrom has also played in 17 Stanley Cup Playoff games, scoring three goals and two assists for five points.

Taken in the second round by the Toronto Maple Leafs in the 2016 NHL Entry Draft, the Swedish forward spent several seasons in the AHL with the Toronto Marlies and Ontario Reign. In 99 AHL games, Grundstrom had 30 goals and 42 assists for 72 points. Grundstrom helped the Marlies win a Calder Cup in 2017-18, scoring eight goals and six assists for 14 points in 20 AHL playoff games.

San Jose is currently 11-23-6 and sits eighth in the Pacific Division with 28 points through 40 games. The Sharks are slated to face the Tampa Bay Lightning on Thursday, the New Jersey Devils on Saturday and the Vegas Golden Knights on Tuesday.

Mikael Granlund leads the Sharks with 34 points this season, while rookie Macklin Celebrini has racked up 12 goals and 27 points. Tyler Toffoli leads the team with 14 goals.
