Sharks’ Prospect Sam Dickinson Ties London Knights’ Franchise Mark

It came in a losing cause on Sunday evening, but San Jose Sharks’ prospect and current London Knights’ defenceman Sam Dickinson set a personal mark and tied a franchise record in an 8-5 loss to the Windsor Spitfires. The offensively skilled defenceman had two assists in the game on both of Easton Cowan’s goals to give him 28 goals and 87 points in just 54 games this season for the Ontario Hockey League’s Knights.

With his 87th point, Dickinson tied a single-season franchise mark for points by a defenceman. His first assist tied him for second on that list with Nick Stajduhar who had 86 points for the Knights back in 1993-94 and with his second helper of the night, Dickinson tied Rick Corriveau (1990-91) and current Edmonton Oilers’ defenceman Evan Bouchard (2017-18) with 87 points in a single season for the Knights.

The Knights have three games remaining in their regular season against the Kitchener Rangers, Spitfires and Erie Otters, with the likelihood being that Dickinson will break the record and set a new franchise mark for the Knights to close out the season.

As for league-wide, Dickinson sits second behind only Zayne Parekh of the Saginaw Spirit who has 33 goals and 102 points in 59 games played this season when it comes to defensive scoring. At his pace, Dickinson would have 95 points through 59 games had he played the same number of contests as Parekh this season.
