The San Jose Sharks announced Friday they signed goaltender Gabriel Carriere to a one-year, two-way contract.

The 24-year-old Carriere spent most of the 2024-25 season with the ECHL’s Wichita Thunder, posting a 14-9-2 with a .922 save percentage (SV%) and 2.60 goals against average (GAA) in 25 games. He ranks third in the ECHL for shutouts with three.
Carriere also played 10 games with the AHL’s San Jose Barracuda, posting a 5-4-1 record with a .902 SV% and 2.85 GAA
Before turning professional, Carriere spent four seasons at the University of Vermont, where he posted a 28-50-8 record with a .908 SV% and 2.75 GAA through those four years. In his senior year, he went 13-18-3 with a .906 SV% and 2.77 GAA, and was named a Hobey Baker Award nominee as the NCAA’s Top Collegiate Player.
Earlier in the day, the Sharks dealt Luke Kunin to the Columbus Blue Jackets in exchange for a 2025 fourth-round pick. They also sent Fabian Zetterlund, Tristen Robins and a fourth-round-pick to the Ottawa Senators in exchange for Zack Ostapchuk, Noah Gregor and a second-round pick.
On Thursday, the Sharks traded Nico Sturm and a seventh-rounder to the Florida Panthers for a 2026 fourth-round pick. In a separate trade, the Sharks sent Vitek Vanecek to Florida for Patrick Giles, then acquired Vincent Desharnais from the Pittsburgh Penguins for a fifth-round pick in 2028.
The Sharks are 17-38-9 with 43 points, last in the Pacific Division, Western Conference and the entire league. They have a league-worst minus-72 goal differential, and they’re 2-5-3 in their last 10 games.
William Eklund leads the team in points with 48 through 14 goals and 34 assists, while Macklin Celebrini has 20 goals and 26 assists for 46 points.
