Ostapchuk was a pending restricted free agent after coming to the end of his three-year, entry-level contract, which carried an AAV of $880,000.
The St. Albert, Alb. native has been with the Sharks since he was acquired by the team from the Ottawa Senators ahead of the trade deadline in March 2025 in the deal that saw Ostapchuk, Noah Gregor, and a 2025 draft pick head to San Jose for Fabian Zetterlund, Tristen Robins, and a fourth-round pick.
With an improving Sharks team, Ostapchuk had one of his more productive seasons in his young NHL career. The 23-year-old set career highs in goals (4), assists (3) and points (7) in 59 games, finishing the year with a plus/minus of -11 while averaging 10:06 of ice time per game. He ranked third on the team with 140 hits. He also appeared in 11 games with the San Jose Barracuda, the Sharks’ American Hockey League affiliate, posting three goals and four points.
Ostapchuk was taken by the Senators in the second round, 39th overall, of the 2021 NHL Draft. Since then, he has appeared in 122 games, scoring five goals and six assists for 11 points. In 95 AHL regular-season games, he has posted 22 goals and 21 assists for 43 points, with another two points in 12 Calder Cup Playoff contests.
With the signing, Ostapchuk joins Kiefer Sherwood as the only two players in the organization to be signed beyond the 2028-29 campaign.
