One of the biggest names in NHL Free Agency is now off the board. It was previously reported that Jacob Trouba would be testing free agency instead of signing an extension with the Anaheim Ducks.
Now, Trouba has found a new home, as he has signed with the San Jose Sharks, according to a release by the team.
Trouba will be receiving a four-year deal with an $8.15 million AAV.
Trouba was the ninth overall selection of the 2012 NHL Draft by the Winnipeg Jets. After playing a year at the University of Michigan, he joined the Jets for the 2013-14 campaign. He immediately became a consistent 20-point scorer from the blueline for the Jets. He had his best season in 2018-19, scoring eight times while adding 42 assists. Still, Trouba made it known he would not be returning to the Jets when his contract ended and was traded to the New York Rangers ahead of the 2019-20 season.
Still, he never lived up to expectations with the Rangers and was ultimately traded to the Anaheim Ducks during the 2024-25 campaign. Trouba struggled with the Ducks initially, playing 53 games at the end of the season, with just one goal and seven assists. Trouba had a bounce-back season with the Ducks this past year. For the third time in his career, he hit the ten-goal marker, finding the back of the net ten times in 2025-26. He also had 25 assists, which was just the second time since 2018-19 that he had hit that mark.
Now, he will be looking to help a young Sharks team reach the playoffs for the first time since 2019.
